This talented quirky Irish singer-songwriter is back with this wonderful little ditty from her upcoming yet untitled third album. “Momma’s Place” is full-on groovy dance with elements of 90′s dance music, which we predict will be the trend for the year 2010. Listening to the lyrics, it is quite an obvious bitchy comment to Lady GaGa (though she may claim otherwise!) ,whose fashion and music has bits of Roisin Murphy in it, by claiming “I did it first” which is very true in many ways. The song has a wonderful synth bassline and an obvious nod to the Pet Shop Boys with a synth loop that is “influenced” from their hit single “Domino Dancing”. Infact, this Seiji-produced track can be easily mistaken as a 12-inch Pet Shop Boy song. It’s only the first month into 2010 but we dare say this is one of the best tracks of this year. If this is of any indication, we can’t wait for the video.

Video of the week: Janet Jackson “Make Me”
25 11 2009
Miss Jackson is back and she is back with a vengence. This time with a posh new video directed by Robert Hales, who did the excellent Gnarls Barkley “Crazy” video. Premise of the video is simple, shot entirely in black and white, shows Janet and her dancers doing their slick moves. In between, shots of Janet in various designer costumes (Canadian designer Todd Lynn Spring 2010 collection in full swing here) posing and writhing around on a designer lounge chair and with some special effects added in the mix. Some might say it looks like Janet’s previous video “Scream” which she did with her late brother but perhaps it is intentionally as the dance moves is very Michael and her singing “Don’t stop till you get it up”….a nod to Michael’s “Don’t stop till you get enough”. The mood of the video is simple, fun, funky and the Janet from the 80′s that we know and love. Before she went all slutty.
